Sunday June 3

First, I had to post another pic from the Market - look at those tomatoes!
And for those that are interested, this is a still taken from a 1080 HD video shot with the GoPro Hero2.  MUCH better picture than the original GoPro.

This morning (Sunday) we left at 8:00 am and are not yet back at 8:00 pm - a long day, but a good one.

This morning we drove 2 hours west & inland to Kakum Rainforest Park where we walked the canopy rope walk.  It was really fun, with 7 segments  of rope walk.  The tallest one was over 40 meters above the jungle floor.

Kwasi did not join us - he says he is trying to set the record for the person who has been to the Park the most times without actually going on the rope walkways..  All of us had a great time.

Funny story: we were all soaked between being sweaty and/or rained on after our rainforest adventure.  Turns out the A/C on the bus could neither be turned down nor turned off:  it is struck at full throttle making ice cubes.  Yikes…

Anyway, we had a great meal of spicy rice & chicken prepared by Gifty, another Ghanaian that had come along with lunch and to otherwise help with the day.

After that we drove south to the coast to Elmina Castle.  This was many thousands of Africans - not just Ghanaians - saw Africa for the last time on their way to a life of slavery.

And it turned out that Gifty wields a mean machete when it comes to stripping and slicing sugar cane, much to our benefit!!!

(Note: never give a woman with a machete reason to be mad at you, no matter how nice she is…)

I think early to bed tonight, as we leave for Kumasi at 8:00 am and all must be packed up by then.  Finally the students will meet and move in with their Host Families.  They are all very excited about it.

Hopefully I will have time to post more tomorrow.  If you are getting these updates please let me know!  This is my first try using Google Blogger so I want to know if I am doing it right or not!
